Chlorine Dosing Calculator for Disinfection

What is chlorination of water and how does it work?

Chlorination is the process of adding chlorine to drinking and domestic water to kill parasites, bacteria, and viruses. Various processes can be used to achieve safe levels of chlorine in drinking water. Using or drinking water with small amounts of chlorine has no adverse health effects and helps protect against disease outbreaks in the water.
Chlorine is one of many methods that can be used to disinfect water. This method was first used over a century ago, and is still used today. This is a chemical disinfection method that uses various types of chlorine or chlorine-containing substances to oxidize and disinfect potable water.

Instructions for using the utility to calculate the dose of chlorine disinfectant by pictures

Calculator utility interface Chlorine disinfection Step 1: Enter the input water flow to be treated, the unit is m3/h Step 2: Enter the dose of chlorine to be added to the water, the unit is mg/l, g/m3 or ppm,... This index is highly dependent on the quality of the input water and requires residual chlorine content after dosing. The most common is to choose 2-4mg/l for domestic water, 7-10mg/l for wastewater or maybe higher (just recommended) Step 3: Enter the initial chlorine concentration in %. For example, when buying powdered chlorine, there will be information on the chlorine concentration on the barrel, if it write 70%, then you enter the number 70  Step 4: Enter the operating time, in units of h/day.  This is the time the water treatment system operates in 1 day, it can be 6, 10, 15, 20, 24 h/day Step 5: Enter the cycle for refill chemical, units of days. This is the cycle time you need to refill chemicals once, for example, if you want to refill every 10 days, choose 10 Step 6: Enter the volume of chemical mixing tank, unit L.
This is the volume of chemical mixing tank, common will be 100L, 200L, 300L, 500L, 1000L,....
Examples of data entry are in the following table
Chlorine disinfection On the right is the column that returns the results
  • The amount of chlorine chemical used for 1 hour is 30g/h
  • The amount of chlorine chemical used for 1 day is 0.72kg/day (this is the amount of chemical consumed according to the undiluted concentration)
  • Amount of chemicals to be mixed into the tank: 7.2kg for each mixing
  • Concentration of chemicals after mixing: 1%
  • Chlorine flow to be filled: 3 liters / h, this is the flow you set for the dosing pump to dose the water
